You need to choose the right materials for your project's needs. Atlas Fibre offers a wide range of phenolic composites, including linen phenolic. This composite material is ideal for use when detailed machining is required, as its fine weave offers better machining properties than canvas phenolic. It's also less abrasive than fiberglass and less noisy than metal.
Linen phenolic consists of a finely woven linen base and phenolic resin. The material has a high density and good moisture resistance, making it ideal for use in humid environments. Its properties make it appropriate for fabricating radio parts, terminal bases and fine-tooth gears.
Two types of linen phenolic are available. LE-grade linen phenolic is appropriate for use in projects that require electrical insulation and NEMA-rated materials, while L-grade linen phenolic is mechanical grade.
We have both L- and LE-grade linen phenolic in stock.
L-grade linen is made up of woven linen fabric and phenolic resin. It qualifies for MIL-I-24768/13 and NEMA L. L-grade phenolic has good machining characteristics and moisture resistance, which allows it to be used in more applications than XX-grade paper-based phenolic. Additionally, L-grade linen phenolic has a finer weave than C-grade canvas phenolic composite, which allows for finer machining features.
Because it lacks the electrical insulating properties of LE-grade linen, L-grade is better suited to mechanical applications.
L-grade linen phenolic
LE-grade linen phenolic is a high-strength composite suited for electrical insulation. Like L-grade, this material is stiff and strong, making it appropriate for various applications. Since it has excellent electrical insulating properties, it can be used as insulation in an electromechanical device, fixture, gear, or jig.
LE-grade linen phenolic
Linen phenolic offers several benefits over other types of phenolic, including canvas and paper. Some of its benefits include:
The linen fabric’s fine weave makes it ideal for fabricating small or intricate parts.
LE-grade linen has excellent electrical properties.
